Total motorcycle sales for August were up 14% over August 2002, and year-to-date figures through August were up 6.9% over 2002. Eight-month sales this year were 678,260 units.

The fastest growing segment for the year was scooters, which grew at a rate of 17% over the eight months. However, unit sales were only 35,542, about 5% of the total motorcycle sales.

This report contains estimated retail unit sales of motorcycles, ATVs and scooters from warranty registrations provided by Aprilia, Arctic Cat, BMW, Bombardier, Buell, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Indian, KTM, Kawasaki, Polaris, Suzuki, Triumph, Victory, and Yamaha from retail dealers. This report does not include total retail sales, since a small portion (less than 5%) of total retail sales is not reported through warranty registrations.
