Japan’s Cycle Production Down, Exports Up
The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) says Japan’s motorcycle manufacturers produced 155,301 units in September 2004, down 2,006 units or 1.3% compared with the 157,307 total registered in the same month of the previous year.
For the month, Yamaha produced 53,825 units; Honda produced 53,499 units; Suzuki produced 29,442 and Kawasaki produced 18,511.
JAMA says 110,101 motorcycles were exported in September 2004, up 14,906 units or 15.7% as compared with 95,195 units recorded for the same month of the previous year.
The total value of motorcycles exported during September was $509.85 million, including $389.86 million for vehicles and $119.99 million for parts. This is an increase of $149.53 million or 41.5% compared with $360.32 million recorded for the same month of the previous year.
Japan’s manufacturers shipped 46,281 units to the U.S. during September.
For the six-month April through September period, Honda produced 273,394 units; Yamaha produced 271,828 units; Suzuki produced 146,976; and Kawasaki produced 87,704.
JAMA says 550,881 motorcycles were exported from Japan between April 2004 and September 2004, up 49,655 units or 9.9% as compared with 501,226 units recorded for the same period of the previous year.
Of the 550,881 units exported during the six-month period, Yamaha shipped 218,058 units; Honda shipped 163,285 units; Suzuki shipped 95,073; and Kawasaki shipped 74,465.
The total value of motorcycles exported during the first six months of the fiscal period was $2,634.61 million, including $1,916.36 million for vehicles and $718.25 million for parts. This is an increase of $427.98 million or 19.4% compared with $2,206.63 million recorded for the same period of the previous year.
Japan’s manufacturers shipped 236,649 units to the U.S. from April through September.
