Kawasaki’s net income leaps 240% – August 14, 2006

Kawasaki Heavy Industries net income for its first quarter ended June 30 was 5.52 billion yen ($47.9 million), up an incredible 240 percent from net income of 1.63 billion yen for the same three-month period in 2005.
The Japanese company’s first-quarter net sales were 302.2 billion yen ($2.62 billion), up 14 percent from net sales of 264.1 billion yen for the first quarter of 2005.
Kawasaki heavy industries operates in shipbuilding, rolling stock and construction machinery, aerospace, gas turbines and machinery, plant and infrastructure engineering and consumer products and machinery, which includes powersports vehicles.
First-quarter sales of consumer products and machinery totaled 106.7 billion yen ($925.8 million), up 27 percent from sales of 84.3 billion yen in Kawasaki’s first quarter of 2005.
The company experienced losses in shipbuilding and plant and infrastructure engineering. psb
