Honda to market 78 vehicles in ’07 – September 25, 2006

American Honda Motor Co. revealed dozens of new models during the company’s annual dealer convention, held recently in Las Vegas. The company plans to retail 78 different powersports vehicles in 2007.
Among the highlights are two radically updated cruisers: the VTX1800T Tourer (MSRP $14,899-$16,449) offered with saddlebags, a large, protective windshield and a supportive passenger backrest; and the 750 Shadow Spirit ($6,449-$6,649), which comes with an all-new 21-inch front wheel with low-profile tire, low 25.7-inch seat height and bobbed fenders.
Sportbike enthusiasts will be glad to see an all-new CBR600RR ($9,499). In addition to updated styling, the new-for-2007 CBR600RR is powered by a new, more compact engine putting out greater horsepower and torque, a lighter aluminum frame, stronger front brakes and HESD electronic steering damper.
Meanwhile, the venerable VFR800 Interceptor ($10,599-$12,099), powered by the VTEC-equipped, fuel-injected V-4, will come in a “heritage” HRC paint scheme.
In off-road, the CRF150R ($4,199-$4,299) is a new youth model available in regular and expert models and joins the updated-for-’07 CRF250R and CRF450R in Honda’s four-stroke family of motocross bikes.
Speaking of four-stroke versus two-stroke, perhaps the biggest shock for off-road dealers was news that American Honda’s current line of two-stroke motocross machines will be discontinued after the 2007 model year.
“This decision reflects Honda’s commitment to environmental leadership in the markets in which we compete,” said Ray Blank, Honda motorcycle division senior vice president. “U.S. market trends and the success of Honda’s revolutionary Unicam four-stroke motocross and off-road machines, bolstered by the 2007 CRF150R, make this a logical evolution of our product line.” psb
