Industry backs amendment to study ethanol and off road vehicles

The American Motorcyclist Association, Personal Watercraft Industry Association, Motorcycle Industry Council, Specialty Vehicle Institute of America and International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association have joined other outdoor recreation industry associations to support an amendment to the Senate’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee’s Energy Bill (S 987).

The amendment, which Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) introduced, requires federal agencies to study the effect of mid-level blends of ethanol gasoline (ethanol levels between 10 percent and 40 percent). The ENRC unanimously approved the amendment, which should come to the Senate floor in the next month.

The supporting organizations believe this study is important to provide a clear understanding of ethanol’s effect on engines and equipment.
