Industry’s new unit sales down compared to last year, MIC reports

Sales of new powersports vehicles are down 8 percent through June as both on-highway motorcycles and ATVs have experienced sluggish first halves, according to data compiled by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC).

Sales of quads in the first six months decreased 10.4 percent from the same time last year to 319,111. Street motorcycle sales also are down, even after a positive June. For the first six months, street bike sales were down 5 percent to 389,765. In June, monthly on-road sales were up 2.5 percent.

Off-highway bike sales have dipped significantly — down 15 percent — in the first half while scooter sales are at about the same level as last year at this time.
