Piaggio Group saw an increase in sales of more than 4 percent last year over 2006 with worldwide sales of 708,500 vehicles, including scooters, motorcycles and three/four-wheel commercial vehicles,
Vespa sales also saw an increase with a 17 percent rise over 2006. Gilera and Derbi rose 12.2 percent and 7.1 percent, while Aprilia sales grew 5.8 percent, which can be partially credited to motorcycle sales that were up 26.6 percent.
Piaggio Group also announced the launch of the 2008 Vespa S. The new S has a single-cylinder four-stroke, two-way catalytic converter and secondary air system. The cylinder capacity is 150cc, and the scooter can reach 59 mph. This scooter has a 2.3-gallon gas tank, which takes unleaded. It gets 72 miles per gallon.
The Vespa S design was based off the Vespa Special (1969) and Vespa Primavera (1967).
