PWC Industries changes name to reflect growth

Fort Myers, Fla.-based PWC Industries has changed its name to Powersport Innovations, reflecting growth and a broader product line, the company reported in a press release. “We have recently developed and introduced products that serve the total powersport industry,” Paul Grzebielucha, president and CEO, said in the release. “We’re committed to developing reliable, quality products that not only make watercraft safer but, also land-based vehicles, including motorcycles, ATVs and snowmobiles. Powersport Innovations more accurately describes our company now.”

Yamaha FZR dominating

Former high-profile racers may be touting Sea-Doo’s advantage on a recent Web video (see main story), but it’s Yamaha, and pilot Chris MacClugage, that is dominating the early rounds of the Pro-Am Stock Runabout class on the American PowerBoat Association National Tour.
MacClugage, aboard a Yamaha FZR, has won all eight races he has competed in thus far, leading every one of those races from start to finish. Over Mother’s Day weekend, MacClugage swept rounds 3 and 4 of the tour in Lake Elsinore, Calif. “The FZR rips out of the hole faster than any other boat on the water,” said MacClugage after the weekend. “And once that lead is established, it’s clear that no one can catch up.”

Record solo ride planned

Digital media pioneer Richard Wolpert plans to ride solo from Florida to the Bahamas and back this June on a Yamaha FX HO in an effort to raise awareness and funds to battle Crohn’s Disease. Wolpert is the former president of Disney Online and an executive advisor at RealNetworks. He has lived with Crohn’s most of his life.
“I feel that I actually owe a great deal of my success to the lessons I learned in battling the health consequences of Crohn’s Disease,” said Wolpert. “At a young age, it taught me that life has obstacles and can be challenging. But when faced with these challenges, you can still thrive with perseverance, hard work, optimism and the help of family and friends.” psb
