Jul. 13, 2009 – Steering, suspension upgrades for Can-Am

Technological improvements to suspension and power steering highlight Can-Am’s 2010 ATV lineup.
BRP recently announced its 2010 Outlander MAX LTD line will come with a new suspension system that provides six different rider-selectable levels. The Fox Racing Shox-built suspension will allow riders to pick the level that best suits their preference and the train conditions. The system, called the Air-Controlled Suspension, also will come with a hose that can be used to fill tires while out on the trail. This system will be available on the 800R and 500 MAX LTD models.
Also new to 2010: A power steering system that features “Min” and “Max” modes that provide for more or less steering assistance. Again the rider will be able to determine how much assistance they want depending on their preference and the terrain. This industry-exclusive feature will be on all Outlander XT models, the Outlander MAX LTD models and the Renegade X.
Along with the power steering, Can-Am is providing a fully locking front differential feature that has no speed-limiting drawback.
Other changes to the 2010 lineup include:

  • All Outlander 500, 650 and 800R models will now feature cast-aluminum wheels meaning, according to Can-Am, that it features more models with cast-aluminum wheels than any other OEM;
  • More power to the Outlander 650, which gets a 7-percent increase in power;
  • More features to the 450 X MX, which the company says is now the first production ATV to come with factory-equipped nerf bars and heel nets;
  • All Outlander models will now have Can-Am’s Digitally Encoded Security System, which allows only the owner’s key to start the ATV.
    Can-Am also is bringing back its Renegade X, its sport-utility offering built for the cross-country enthusiast. The 2010 model will have more features, including full beadlock wheels, an 800cc engine, dual-model power steering, an industry-first front swaybar and an updated graphics package. psb
