Aug. 10, 2009 – What’s new for 2010

ATV manufacturers Honda and Polaris provided a look at their upcoming model year lineups.
For highlights of those introductions, see below.

HONDA

FourTrax Rancher/FourTrax Rancher ES
The FourTrax Rancher features a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 420cc engine and an optional Electric Shift Program, which allows for shifts with the touch of a handlebar-mounted button. For 2010, the Rancher and Rancher ES also feature a new seat with added foam padding for increased comfort and a new rack design that facilitates easier cargo lashing. Available in Red and Olive. MSRP of the quads, which will be in dealerships in January, has not been announced.
FourTrax Rancher 4×4
The manual-shift FourTrax Rancher 4×4 offers a number of standard features, including selectable 4WD/2WD TraxLok, a torque-sensitive front differential and a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 420cc engine. In addition, the Rancher 4×4 can be had with Honda’s Electric Power Steering (EPS). Both the 4×4 and EPS models receive pre-load adjustable front and rear suspension for 2010 that can be altered to suit specific riding conditions and terrain. Other upgrades for 2010 include a new seat with added foam padding for increased comfort and a new rack design that facilitates easier cargo lashing. Available in Red, Olive and Natural Gear Camouflage. In dealerships in September. MSRP: $5,999-$6,799.
FourTrax Rancher 4×4 ES
The FourTrax Rancher 4×4 ES includes Honda’s Electric Shift Program (ESP) that makes gear shifts as easy as touching a button, selectable 4WD/2WD TraxLok, a torque-sensitive front differential and fuel injection. The Rancher 4×4 ES also is available with Honda’s Electric Power Steering (EPS). For 2010, both the 4×4 ES and 4×4 ES with EPS feature pre-load adjustable front and rear suspension that can be altered to suit specific riding conditions and terrain. Additional upgrades for 2010 include a new seat with added foam padding for increased comfort and a new rack design that facilitates easier cargo lashing. Available in red, olive and natural gear camouflage. In dealerships in September. MSRP: $6,199-$6,999.
FourTrax Rancher AT
The FourTrax Rancher AT brings an automatic five-speed transmission that gives the rider the option to choose between a fully automatic mode and the Electric Shift Program (ESP), which allows for easy pushbutton shifting. The Rancher AT also features independent rear suspension, selectable 4WD/2WD TraxLok and a rugged torque-sensitive front differential, plus a variation with Electric Power Steering (EPS). For 2010, the Rancher ATs also received a new seat with added foam padding for increased comfort and a new rack design that facilitates easier cargo lashing. Available in red, olive and natural gear camouflage. In dealerships in September. MSRP: $7,299-$7,699.
FourTrax Rincon
The FourTrax Rincon tops Honda’s line of ATVs and features a 675cc engine, independent rear suspension, electronic fuel injection, Honda Automatic Transmission, front and rear hydraulic disc brakes and more. Available in red, olive and natural gear camouflage. In dealerships in September. MSRP: $8,599-$8,999.
Big Red
Honda’s Multipurpose Utility Vehicle features a number of safety items, including the three-point Emergency Locking Retractor seatbelts, separate brake lines that keep brakes working even if a line gets severed and a wide stance for a stable ride. A full line of more than 30 Honda Genuine Accessories also is available for Big Red, including windshields, tops and bumpers. For 2010, a new olive color joins red and natural gear Camouflage. In dealerships in September. MSRP: $11,699.

POLARIS SIDE-BY-SIDES

The Ranger line up will now include the 500 H.O. engine for the Ranger 4×4 and the 800 EFI engine for the Ranger 800 XP, Ranger 800 HD, Ranger 800 Crew and Ranger 800 6×6. The Ranger is expanding with all-new mid-size models, Ranger 400 and Ranger EV Electric side-by-side.
Ranger 400
The 400 is one of two mid-size models added to the lineup for 2010. Though small enough to conveniently fit in the bed of a pickup truck, the 400 delivers a 29hp engine, 500 pounds of cargo capacity, 1,000-pound payload and 1,250 pounds of towing. MSRP:?$7,999
Ranger EV Electric
Built for clean and quiet operation, the Ranger EV Electric EV has a 30hp electric motor, capable of 25 mph top speed, with a range of up to 50 miles. The side-by-side is powered by a battery pack that provides two hours of riding between charges. The EV also features three settings specific to different tasks, allowing for top speeds, best towing or maximum battery life.
Ranger 800 6×6
The 2010 edition features a re-designed exterior to handle the nastiest work and most extreme riding conditions. The new model also features ergonomics design changes in the cab space. Passengers will notice more seat and leg space and new angled-back seating.

POLARIS ATV

The Sportsman line was the first American-made ATV with industry-firsts, such as automatic transmission, electronic fuel injection, independent rear suspension, on-demand true all-wheel drive and engine braking. This year, Polaris has revisited the Sportsman series, focusing on comfort, versatility and value.
Sportsman 850 and 550 Touring EPS
For 2010, Polaris has added the 99 percent new Sportsman XP chassis, motor and features to its 2-Up line, introducing the Sportsman 850 and 550 Touring. The Touring models provide an exclusive shock-absorbing passenger seat. Standard electronic power steering provides variable assist to enhance steering confidence at high speeds.
Polaris will continue to offer the Sportsman 850 XP, Sportsman 850 XP EPS, Sportsman 800 6×6 Big Boss, Sportsman 550 XP, Sportsman 550 XP EPS, Sportsman 400 H.O. and Sportsman 300 as part of the company’s Sportsman lineup. Browning Limited Edition models will be offered with the Sportsman 850 XP EPS and Sportsman 550 EPS.
Redesigned for 2010, Polaris’ Trailblazer 330, Trail Boss 330 and Scrambler 500 4×4 feature updated styling and improved ergonomics. More powerful lighting, thicker disk brakes, new master cylinder and remote fuel gauge have been added to all three models. psb
