AMA Supercross to receive more TV coverage

The 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship series, will see 11 hours of live coverage on SPEED channel and nine hours of CBS broadcast, Feld Motor Sports announced.

SPEED will cover 11 races live: Anaheim Race 1, Phoenix, San Diego, Arlington, Atlanta, St. Louis, Daytona, Indianapolis, Toronto, Seattle and Las Vegas. CBS Sports will then provide next-day coverage of Los Angeles, Oakland, Anaheim Race 2, Houston, New Orleans and Salt Lake City. Also, CBS will present a Monster Energy Supercross season preview on Dec. 25, a series special on Feb. 26 and a season recap show on May 5.

“On the heels of the greatest season ever, the increase in live coverage on SPEED, and the network coverage on CBS Sports is another step forward for the sport,” Feld Motor Sports president Charlie Mancuso said. “This elevates the riders, the sponsors and the sport to a higher level and provides the loyal fans the most comprehensive television package Monster Energy Supercross has ever had.”

The 2011 coverage of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross on SPEED, which included eight live races, yielded a 24 percent increase in ratings, while the nine hours of network coverage on CBS produced a 21 percent increase in ratings.

“The last few seasons of Monster Energy Supercross on SPEED have provided great storylines and fantastic racing,” SPEED president Hunter Nickell said. “Being able to deliver a record number of races live on SPEED in 2012 is a testament to the growing interest in the series and the commitment to continue that growth by our partners at Feld Motor Sports and the team here at SPEED.”
