Ducati owner looks to sell OEM

Ducati private equity owner Investindustrial plans to sell or list the company in an effort to make three times its initial investment, the Financial Times reported.

Investindustrial, an Italian private equity group backed by the Bonomi family, wants to dispose of Ducati for up to [euro]1 billion.

Andrea Bonomi, Investindustrial’s chairman, said a handful of groups in Asia, Europe and the United States are interested in the sale, and the Financial Times reported that people close to the situation have mentioned BMW, Volkswagen and Mahindra, a motorcycle group in India, as possible buyers. Investindustrial had Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs sound out a public listing for Ducati in Hong Kong last year.

“Ducati is now a perfect company but the further growth it requires needs the support of a world-class industrial partner,” Bonomi told the Financial Times. “This year, we will work towards that partner.”
