Can-Am adds Dynamic Power Steering to 2013 Commander, ATVs

Can-Am’s Commanders and Outlander ATVs have a new Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) system available for 2013.

The DPS package for the Commander adds the DPS system with Visco-Lok QE (quicker engaging) and 27-inch (68.5-cm) Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires on 14-inch (35.5-cm) cast aluminum wheels.

“The addition of DPS was a logical progression that blends well with our long-standing belief to offer vehicles that appeal to the end user’s brand enthusiasm and also produce the most powerful, capable and comfortable products in the industry,” said Yves Leduc, vice president and general manager, North America. “The new Can-Am Commander side-by-side vehicles with DPS, which continue to lead the industry in terms of overall innovation, appeal, convenience and versatility, have raised industry standards once again and will enable our dealers to better achieve overall customer satisfaction.”

Also available in the 2013 Commander lineup are two Rotax V-twin EFI engine options (800R or 1000) and five platforms (including the DPS package). The models feature a Dual-Level cargo box, comfortable seats and ample room for two adult passengers. The XT and Limited packages are also returning with features such as a 4,000-pound (1,814-kg) WARN winch, a half-windshield, premium wheels and tires and an entertainment system with integrated Garmin touchscreen GPS. Two color schemes are available for the 1000 X and 1000 Limited packages.

In the ATV lineup, changes have been made across the lineup. The Outlander 500 is highlighted by a 15 percent power increase over last year’s model. The DPS package is also available for the Outlander 500.

“This year’s updates to the Can-Am ATV lineup are not only about bringing more technology and advancements to the industry, but more about bringing more value to the consumer,” Leduc said. “With updated models and packages like the Can-Am Outlander 500 DPS model, more than ever, BRP gives consumers even more reason to visit a Can-Am ATV dealer and test-ride a machine.”

The Outlander MAX lineup offers four Rotax engine packages (1000, 800R, 650 and 500), and it now features the second-generation Surrounding Spar Technology (SST G2) frame. The MAX models also have a redesigned passenger seat system, and a Pearl White painted finish is new on the MAX LIMITED model.

The mud-specific Outlander 1000 X mr is based on the MAX chassis and available in the trademark yellow and black X-Package theme or an all-new NEXT G-1 Vista camouflage finish. The 1000 X mr features a larger, relocated radiator, ITP wheels, a larger and restyled analog/digital gauge package, rider-adjustable air-controlled suspension and other updates.

Many of the other Can-Am ATVs also received the SST G2 frame and suspension changes, as well as the DPS system. The DPS package will be offered in all four 500cc-plus Outlander segments.

Sport-touring themed XT-P packages were introduced for the 800R and 1000 one-rider Outlander and two-rider Outlander MAX, featuring the new analog/digital gauge package, a full FOX suspension system, 12-inch (30.5-cm) aluminum beadlock wheels, racing-inspired handlebars and an exclusive color scheme.

Also returning for 2013 is the DS 450 ATV with FOX Float X EVOL piggyback shocks standard on the front of the DS 450 X mx model.
