Bumpus Harley-Davidson runs months-long charity fundraiser
The Bumpus Harley-Davidson family of dealerships, along with American Gold Star Mothers, is kicking off its "Tour of Duty" charity fundraiser for Fisher House on Saturday. Fisher House is a "home away from home" for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers.
The event will be launched Saturday at all five Bumpus dealerships - in Jackson, Memphis, Collierville, Murfreesboro and Lynchburg, Tenn. -- and it runs through Aug. 18. Representatives of American Gold Star Mothers will be on hand to help with registration. The organization consists of mothers whose children have died while in military service as a result of that service or whose children are missing in action.
Participants of the fundraiser will receive a "Tour of Duty" T-shirt and a passport for a $25 entry fee. They're then encouraged to have the passport stamped at each Bumpus location. At an Aug. 18 event at the Murfreesboro location, one participant who received a stamp from all five dealerships will win a $2,500 Bumpus gift card. The goal is to raise money for the first Fisher House in Tennessee; there are 54 such facilities across the U.S. and Germany.
"Tennessee currently is not served by Fisher House, but we want to have a part in changing that, and are especially excited to have the new house built in Murfreesboro. These young men and women have given so much for us. There's no way any of us can totally repay that debt, but hopefully we can make a difference for them and their families as they heal," said Scott Bumpus, owner and partner of Bumpus Harley-Davidson of Jackson. "Also, the Harley-Davidson riding community is amongst the most giving and patriotic people in the USA, so this fundraiser was a no brainer. Yes, one person will win a prize by participating in the ride, but this is about so much more than the prize. Every dollar we raise in registration fees will go to the Fisher House. We are proud to be associated with the Fisher House and the American Gold Star Mothers."
