Suzuki’s August sales boosted by RM-Z

Motocross bikes up 40 percent at retail compared to 2013

Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (SMAI) and its dealers celebrated the end of summer with a strong start to the traditional ATV sales season. For August, Suzuki scored sales gains in sport ATVs and utility sport ATVs, for a combined 23-percent rise over the same month last year. Total motorcycle sales in August were consistent with last year’s numbers, earning Suzuki a 5-percent increase in combined motorcycle, ATV and scooter sales compared to August 2013 numbers.

Strong sales of all Suzuki KingQuad 750 ATVs — power steering and non-power steering models in both True Timber XD3 camo and regular body colors —contributed significantly to the August sales success. Still, all Suzuki utility sport ATVs made year-over-year gains.

“When shoppers compare and look at the total value of Suzuki KingQuad ATVs, the choice is clear,” said Rod Lopusnak, general manager-national sales for SMAI. “And with the improvements made to the KingQuad 750 and 400 models — including improved power feel, better fuel economy, easier cold starting and more — Suzuki KingQuad ATVs make the most sense for today’s buyers.”

The 2015 RM85 will mean even more motocross business for Suzuki dealers in the near future, according to Suzuki.

ATV shoppers also showed favor for the Suzuki QuadSport Z400, with sales up more than 10 percent, and for the QuadSport Z90, which both customers and Suzuki dealers are glad to have back in the lineup this year.

On the two-wheel side, Suzuki RM-Z motocross bikes made big monthly sales gains again. The RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 have been strong sellers for several months, with sales of both motocross models up more than 40 percent for the year compared to last year’s sales. The return of the RM85 for 2015 will mean even more MX business for Suzuki dealers in the near future.

Even with some new motorcycles just arriving at Suzuki dealers during August, sales of fuel-efficient and lower-cost motorcycles are on the rise. Customers are showing strong interest in the all-new 2015 Suzuki Burgman 200 ABS and the GW250 in particular. The recently announced 2015 Suzuki DR200S arrived in dealerships during the month. With its fuel-efficient and affordable character, this DualSport motorcycle will likely be a strong seller as well.

On Sept. 1, SMAI announced two special fall promotion offers that make it easier for customers to buy a Suzuki ATV, motorcycle, or scooter. The “Down & Dirty KingQuad Sales Event” offers low-percentage financing and cash back on select Suzuki ATVs. The “On The Throttle Fall Sales Event” also offers customers low-percentage financing options plus generous cash back on select Suzuki motorcycles and scooters. Both promotions run through Nov. 1 at Suzuki dealers nationwide.

August was also a special month for SMAI to look back. On Aug. 16, Suzuki celebrated its 51st Anniversary of doing business in the U.S., honoring the same day in 1963 when Suzuki officially entered the American motorcycle market.
