BMW plans to donate new M automobiles to two of the fastest MotoGP riders participating in the Motorcycle Road Racing World Championship in 2006.
The BMW M Award will be split between two race dates. The rider achieving fastest time in the MotoGP tests being held in Barcelona/Spain March 5 will win a BMW Z4 M Roadster. A BMW Z4 M Coupe will go to the MotoGP rider with the fastest overall time from all qualifying rounds at the last world championship leg in Valencia/Spain on October 29.
Continuing a deal started in 1999, BMW will again be supplying the Safety Cars for the Motorcycle Road Racing World Championship for the next four years. Six BMW automobiles, including a BMW M5 and an M6, will constitute the fast-moving four-wheel escort throughout the 17-race series.
Furthermore, BMW also plans to supply Dorna, organizer of the championship, with a larger fleet of BMW models for organizational purposes.
