Motorcycle sales in Australia for the three-month period ended March 31 reached a record 25,512 units, up 4,176 units or 19.6 percent compared to sales during the same period in 2005, said the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
While all three segments of the market - Road, Off-Road and ATV - are growing, it is the Road segment that is experiencing the biggest boom. Road bike sales for the three-month period totaled 11,165 units, up 2,485 units or 28.6 percent compared to last year; Off-Road sales totaled 10,391 units, up 1,070 units or 11.5 percent; and ATV sales numbered 3,956, up 621 units or 18.6 percent from 3,335 units sold during the first three months of 2005.
The FCAI said 102,142 motorcycles were sold in Australia in 2005, an increase of 14.3 percent from the 89,374 units sold in 2004. The organization said 17,068 ATVs were sold on the continent in 2005, an increase of 15.8 percent compared to sales in 2004.
