Derbi introduces two 50cc minis

Derbi, the Spanish brand owned by Piaggio, has entered the U.S. small displacement motorcycle market with a pair of 50cc four-stroke minis, the Dirt Boy (MSRP $1,749) with 10″ front and rear wheels, and the Dirt Kid (MSRP $1,821) with a 12″ front and 10″ rear wheel.
“These are not little cheapie replicas for the kid market, but compare favorably in build quality with other minis and full-size motorcycles,” says Doug Farrelly, C.O.O. of Derbi West, LLC, the sole U.S. importer and distributor of Derbi products. While the bikes are sure to appeal to young riders, Farrelly said he expects “a fair portion” of his sales to be to adults “who’ll want to trick them out with performance parts to be used as toys for themselves.” A 100cc up-grade is coming soon, and performance parts are in process, he said.
Other Derbi models for sale in the U.S. include the 50cc Atlantis scooter, Boulevard 150 scooter, GP1 sport scooter and 50cc GPR sport bike.
Derbi West currently serves approximately 100 dealers. The company says interstate delivery takes five days for units in stock and 30-60 days from the manufacturer. Transactions are requested to be prepayed in U.S. funds. Derbi West also has Transamerica-sponsored 30-60-90 days free floor planning available.
