May 14, 2007 – JAMA manufacturers increase production, exports again

For the second month in a row, the Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association is reporting higher production and export levels.
Motorcycle production in March increased to 176,335 units, a 2.5 percent jump compared to the 172,071 registered in the same month in 2006. The two-month upswing, building on a jump in February, followed five months of production decreases.
Kawasaki leads the pack for the second month in a row for biggest production increase among the four major manufacturers, with 33,633 new bikes, a 19 percent increase over last year. Suzuki was up slightly to 51,434. Yamaha (45,117) and Honda (46,112) were both slightly down.
Exports for March were up 7.8 percent to 132,289 units compared to March 2006. All four major manufacturers reported increases.
Kawasaki was up 20 percent to 33,401 and Suzuki was up 10 percent to 33,973. Honda exports were up 3 percent to 24,895 and Yamaha was up 0.1 percent to 40,020. psb
